I spend way too much time browsing motion graphics
(mograph) on Vimeo. Although, it is a great way to stay on top of the latest trends, get inspired, and connect with other like minded artists. It's kind of mind blowing how many new animations pop up each week. Both newly posted projects and older pieces that are new to me. There's a lot to sort through and not all of the pieces are worth the time and effort. I decided to start cataloging what I find and hopefully save time for others. My goal is to post my five favorite finds each week.
Here are my favorites this week:
The Little Mathematician from Man vs Magnet on Vimeo.
There’s a lot of movement in this piece. The illustration feels childlike without being too kiddish which is great because it’s communicating to an adult audience. The VO has a slight Dr Suess feel. So many little details. I feel like every time I watch it I catch something new. Great execution.
Omers - Defined Benefit Pension Plans from Blame Your Brother on Vimeo.
Microscope scale effect is beautiful. Nice way to sneak the client’s logo in without feeling too forced. This definitely wasn’t a simple animation but the illustrations give it extra complexity.
TuneTeams from Wonderlust on Vimeo.
Clean style and simple color palette. The motion is smooth. As soon as a movement eases into a rest it suddenly bursts into something new. This piece has energy and is fun to watch.
Meet Medlio from James Mabery on Vimeo.
I really like how everything exists in the circle but some elements are allowed to break out of the boundary. The build-ons and morphs are incredibly smooth. The color palette and VO make this piece feel friendly.
House & Monster from Guillaume Kurkdjian on Vimeo.
Such a fun little piece. Music and sound are great. Colors invoke feelings of nostalgia. I think I connect with this one because I can see my kids in the monster. Make a mess and pretend like nothing happened.
